Polysil for the NALUCOAT process

Polysil Alu is a specific coating that, while maintaining the peculiarities of Polysil, makes it possible to obtain aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy surfaces, even colored ones, without the need for intermediate steps in galvanic baths.

Through Polysil Alu, the NALUCOAT process was designed for making environmentally sustainable and recyclable aluminum components. By cold vitrification of surfaces using Polysil, also known as “liquid glass,” aluminum fabrications can be made by eliminating galvanic processes.

The NALUCOAT process makes it possible to produce products with distinctive characteristics with multiple advantages:

  • No problem on the type of alloy as the process is applicable to any aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy.
  • Lightness: the coating thickness between 10 and 20 microns does not impact the weight of the part.
  • Touch effect: unlike polymeric paints, the good thermal conductivity coupled with the low thickness allows the feeling of touching a metal part to be maintained.
  • Anti-fingerprint: the coating does not imprint and remains glossy
  • UV stable does not yellow (pigments may have color variations)
  • Abrasion resistance (similar to PVD coatings)
  • Corrosion resistance: superior to most anti-corrosion treatments
  • Compliance with the MOCA/NSF Standard (Food)
  • Resistance to high temperatures
  • Simple to clean
  • Laserable (allows you to use the laser for marking)
  • Polysil is certified for food use, thanks to the use of food inks, even the colored versions of the coating maintain the certification

The treatment, including the polishing or satin finishing, pre-coating and coating processes, provides elements in aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy that are completely recyclable and recoverable. The parts, at the end of their life, can be remelted or recovered by reprocessing them, eliminating the coating with a Sodablasting process.

Polysil Alu is compatible with the circular economy, as it allows easy separation from aluminum and is also easily recyclable as it is made up of silicon dioxide which is similar to common glass, furthermore by eliminating the need for galvanic baths it allows to use less energy in the process and to eliminate the use of highly polluting components (Chromium, Nickel, etc.)
