Nanoprom Chemicals has developed and tested Polysil Paper, a coating to protect paper and paperboard from water and moisture.
The coating is based on patented sol-gel processes, Polysil Paper creates cold vitrification on the substrate by following the micro-movements of the surface without altering the structure and providing total and effective protection from water.
Polysil Paper has unique advantages over other surface treatments:
The ability to make paper and paperboard impermeable, or at least semi-impermeable, to water represents a significant breakthrough in many applications. One tangible example involves disposable items (such as plates, straws, etc.) that were commonly made of plastic in the past. Cardboard packages no longer need to be protected with plastic covers to shield them from the weather.
